What it is - Overview
It will:
• Include a curriculum and methodology to help standardize instruction along with available materials
• Explore a repertoire of Israeli folk dances appropriate for different age and skill levels
• Impart an understanding of holiday celebrations and diverse cultural traditions through creative movement and dance
• Use Israeli folk dance material to develop creative teaching and leadership skills through:
a) thematic development and an understanding of choreography
b) basic body movement as a vehicle for dramatic expression
c) understanding the rhythmic structure of music and dance
d) basic costume ideas
• Provide a forum for teachers to share their experiences
• Provide a Shabbat experience with the Temple Israel community and the use of dance to enhance preparation for and observance of Shabbat:
- Family Friday night dinner and "Dancing Oneg"
- "Lunch and Learn" following Shabbat morning services
• Provide a showcase for children's performing groups with the goal of creating regional Israeli Folk Dance Festivals
• Afford opportunities for certification and continuing education credits
• Special Sunday Bonus: Israeli folk dance workshop and party with Ruth Goodman and Danny Uziel, sponsored by Temple Israel's adult dance classes and Nancy Bell
